ABOUT

Lignit Film​ Production​​ Collective​ ​was​ founded​ on​ 4​ November​ 2013​ by​ ​Zoran​ ​Benčič (musician,​ ​author,​ ​screenwriter),​ ​Matej​​ Nahtigal​​ (photographer,​ ​designer,​ director)​ and Tomi​ ​Matič​ ​(producer). Lignit Film​ believes​ ​that​ the​ film​ ​medium​ offers​ a​ great​ platform​ for​ a​ meditation on​ the​ society​ and​ its​ individuals.​ Thus​ our​ aim​ ​is​ ​to​ ​reflect​ on​ the​ relevant​ topics​ and themes​ ​in​ ​our​ society​ by​ creating​ and​ ​producing​ films​ in​ various​ genres. Our​ main​ emphasis​ is​ on​ ​independent​ ​and​ ​autonomous​ ​artistic​ creation.​ Our​ collective​ is confident​ that​ ​there​ is​ plenty​ of​ creative​ potential​ in​ the​ content​ ​and​ production​ ​sphere​ that the​ young​ film​ creators​ are​ ​not​ able​ to​ utilize​ yet.​ That​ ​is​ ​why​ ​we​ are​ trying​ to​ connect​ the youth​ and​ the​ local​ community,​ ​which​ ​is​ ​eager​ ​to​ ​support​ the​ amateur​ as​ well​ as​ the top-most​ culture,​ in​ order​ to​ demonstrate​ ​that​ ​“independent”​ ​film​ production​ ​can​ ​not​ ​only function​ in​ such​ ​a​ ​setting​ but​ also​ broaden​ the​ spectrum​ ​of​ ​the​ ​available​ mainstream content.​ Our​ goal​ ​ is​ to​ create​ films​ which​ ​do​ ​not​ ​bore​ ​or​ ​underestimate​ the​ viewers​ ​but rather​ ​give​ ​them​ ​food​ ​for​ thought.

PAST

​Our first​​ project​ was​ ​a​ full-length​ ​feature​, a neo-noir film PSI​ BREZČASJA​ ​ /​ ​ CASE OSTERBERG,​ ​adapted​ after​ Zoran​ Benčič’s​ namesake​ novel directed​ by​ Matej​ Nahtigal​ and executively​ produced​ by​ ​Tomi​ ​Matič.​ ​In​ ​2015,​ ​the​ ​film,​ ​a​ ​full-length​ ​debut,​ ​received​ the International​ ​Film​ ​Critics​ ​Award​ ​(the​ FIPRESCI​ Prize)​ ​at​ ​the​ 18.​ Slovenian​ ​Film​ ​Festival​ ​in Portorose,​ ​Slovenia.​ This​ ​acknowledgement​ ​also​ earned​ us the​ status​ of​ ​a​ ​Public​ ​Interest Society,​ ​conferred​ ​by​ ​Republic​ ​of​ ​Slovenia’s​ ​Ministry​ ​of​ ​Culture​ in 2017.

FUTURE

The​ ​Lignit​ Film​ ​Collective​ has​ ​been​ ​working​ ​on​ our​ second​ full-length​ ​feature​ ​“The Corporation”​ ​since​ ​2016.​ ​It's a stylistically driven crime drama, inspired by the crime films of the 70's. For​ ​this​ ​project,​ ​we​ ​got the support of the Slovenian Film Center and are a part of the National Film Programme for 2018. We are​ also collaborating​ with​ ​co-production​ ​crews from​ ​Croatia,​ ​FYR​ ​Macedonia​ ​and​ ​Finland.​ Our​ ​aim​ ​is​ to​ ​put​ ​together​ a​ ​wonderfully​ ​executed story​ ​in​ ​all​ ​its​ ​segments,​ marked​ ​with​ ​quality​ and​ ​potential​ ​to​ ​inspire. The shooting is scheduled for Q4 2018 and the release is planned in 2019.
